Erythromycin thiocyanate is the thiocyanate salt of erythromycin, a commonly used macrolide antibiotic, which is a veterinary drug for the treatment of Gram-positive bacteria and protozoa infections, and has been widely used abroad as "animal growth promoter", which is one of the four major exported veterinary antibiotics in China, together with tylosin, tetracycline hydrochloride and oxytetracycline. In addition, it is also an important intermediate for synthesizing the mainstream macrolide antibiotics erythromycin, roxithromycin, azithromycin and clarithromycin.
Erythromycin thiocyanate is a macrolide antibiotic produced by the actinomycete Streptomyces erythrius, which has a wide range of antibacterial activities. Erythromycin thiocyanate acts by binding to the 50S ribosome subunit of bacteria, and inhibits the synthesis of RNA dependent proteins by blocking the transpeptide and/or translocation reaction, without affecting the synthesis of nucleic acids.
