Antazoline hydrochloride (Antazoline) is a histamine receptor antagonist that was introduced in the 1960s for the clinical treatment of atrial and ventricular premature contractions and is a class IA antiarrhythmic drug. Serious side effects associated with antazoline have rarely been reported in the literature. Antazoline hydrochloride is an H1 receptor blocker with antihistamine and anticholinergic effects. In the 1940s Dutta was found to report that antazoline had anti-arrhythmic effects by a mechanism similar to that of quinidine, classified in class IA. Studies have shown that antazoline has a greater effect on ATP-sensitive K+ currents than voltage-sensitive K+ currents. Therefore, its antiarrhythmic effect may be related to selective inhibition of ATP-sensitive K+ channels.
