Panthenol is a derivative of vitamin B5, also known as provitamin B5. Vitamin B5 is pantothenic acid, its nature is unstable, easy to be affected by temperature and formula, so that its bioavailability decreases, so it is often used in cosmetic formulations, its precursor - panthenol. Panthenol exists in three forms: right-handed (D-type), left-handed (L-type) and mixed (DL-type), among which right-handed panthenol (D-panthenol) has high biological activity, so the application in the cosmetics industry is mainly D-panthenol.
