Vitamin U is iodomethyl-methyl-thio-butyl acid. Found in cabbage, cabbage, kale, lettuce, alfalfa and other green leafy vegetables. It has a special smell, salty and bitter. It's not stable in the light or in the air. Soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol and ether. The aqueous solution is acidic.It is mainly used to treat gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer. It can be prepared by the reaction of methionine with iodomethane. However, it should be noted that iodomethyl-methyl-thio-butyl acid has certain side effects, which may cause short-term dry mouth, dysuria, dilated pupils, constipation and other adverse reactions. |
