Genipin is extracted from the fruits of Gardenia jasminoides Ellis. Genipin is an excellent natural biological cross-linking agent that can be cross-linked with protein, collagen, gelatin and chitosan to make biomaterials. Genipin can also be used as a fingerprint collection reagent and a cross-linking agent for preparing immobilized enzymes.
Genipin is the product of gardeniside hydrolyzed by β-glucosidase. It is an excellent natural biological crosslinking agent, which can be crosslinked with protein, collagen, gelatin and chitosan to produce biological materials. It can also be used in the treatment of liver diseases, blood pressure reduction, constipation and so on.
