Chromium picolinate is an organic compound with the formula C18H12CrN3O6, also known as chromium picolinate 2-formate. It is a violet to red crystalline powder, slightly soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol, in which chromium is trivalent chromium. Chromium picolinate is thought to enhance insulin function, leading to increased insulin sensitivity in type 2 diabetes, and is therefore used as a supplement or alternative medication for type 2 diabetes.
Chromium picolinate belongs to the category of Western medicine and is a drug for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. It can improve the sensitivity of cells to insulin, reduce alcohol and improve white, improve muscle burst and improve glucose metabolism. In addition, chromium picolinate can also increase the amount of active AMP protein kinase (AMPK) in skeletal muscle cells associated with metabolic pathways, improve energy balance and insulin function, improve insulin sensitivity in high-risk diabetic patients, and participate in insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.
