4-nitrobenzoic acid is a nitrobenzoic acid having the nitro group at the 4-position. It is functionally related to a benzoic acid. It is a conjugate acid of a 4-nitrobenzoate.
It is obtained from the oxidation of p-nitrotoluene, and the oxidizing agent can be , air, manganese ore powder, nitric acid and so on. Take p-nitrotoluene as raw material, in the presence of sulfuric acid, oxidizing reaction with at 55ºC, generating p-nitrobenzoic acid. The reaction solution is filtered, centrifuged and dehydrated, washed and dried, and the finished product is obtained. In addition, p-nitrobenzoic acid is easily obtained by oxidizing 1-p-nitrophenyl-2-amino-1,3-propanediol with nitric acid using the dextrose from chloramphenicol production.
