Glycyrrhetinic acid is one of the deep processing products of glycyrrhiza extract. Licorice is a commonly used Chinese medicine, widely used in medicine, tobacco, food and other fields. Its main active ingredient glycyrrhizin has a corticotropin-like effect and can be used for detoxification, anti-inflammatory, antitussive, anti-tumor and so on. Glycyrrhizin is glycyrrhetinic acid. Glycyrrhetinic acid is hydrolyzed by gastric acid or decomposed by β-glucuronidase in the liver to form glycyrrhetinic acid in humans.
The pharmacological action of glycyrrhizic acid is essentially that of glycyrrhetinic acid. Pharmacological studies in recent years have found that glycyrrhizic acid and glycyrrhetinic acid derivatives have anti-inflammatory, anti-ulcer, anti-allergic, anti-viral, hypolipidemic, antitussive, asthmatic, expectorant and other effects, and can also be used for the prevention and treatment of viral hepatitis, hyperlipidemic and cancer and other diseases. China is the main exporter of licorice, so it is of great significance to carry out deep processing and comprehensive utilization of licorice.
