Terbinafine hydrochloride is a broad spectrum antifungal drug used in dermatology. It was developed by Swiss pharmaceutical company Novartis in the 1980s and first launched in the UK in 1991. In 1996, it was approved by the United States FDA as an OTC drug and was listed in the United States in the same year. Currently, it is sold in more than 90 countries around the world. It can specifically disturb the late biodegradation of fungal sterols, selectively inhibit the activity of fungal squalene cycoperoxidase, and block the epoxidation reaction of squalene in the process of fungal cell membrane formation, so as to achieve the role of killing or inhibiting fungi. It is suitable for the treatment of skin candidiasis, such as ringworm of hand, tinea pedis, jock itch, tinea corporis and tinea versicolor, and is also the best medicine for the treatment of gray nails.
