Sulfamethicone acetate is mainly used for the prevention or treatment of secondary wound infections after II and III degree burns.
Mafenide Acetate, also known as aminobenzyl sulfonamide acetate or sulfamethazine, is an antimicrobial medication especially indicated for the prevention or treatment of infections caused by a wide range of bacteria and fungal infections. These infections include, but are not limited to, Citrobacter spp, Enterobacter cloacae, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp, Aspergillus spp, Fusobacterium spp, Pseudomonas spp. such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and fungal infections such as Staphylococcus spp., Enterococcus spp. and Candida albicans. The drug can be partially absorbed into the wound by topical application, thus exerting its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects. However, it should be avoided or used with caution in patients with respiratory or renal insufficiency.
