Galangin is a natural flavonol compound mainly extracted from the rhizome of Alpinia officinarum Hance. It has a variety of pharmacological effects, including antioxidant, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and anti-tumor. Galangin has the chemical name 4H-1-benzopran-4-one, 3, 5, 7-trihydroxy-2-phenyl, molecular formula C15H10O5, molecular weight 270.23. It is a light yellow crystalline powder, soluble in ethanol and ether. Galangin can be used as an analytical reference standard in high performance liquid chromatography for quantitative analysis of related compounds in propolis and wine samples.
