Purslane extract is a substance extracted from the dried whole plant of Portulacaoleracea L., a plant of the family Purslane. Purslane has a sour taste and cold nature, and enters the large intestine, liver and spleen meridians. Purslane is an annual fleshy herb distributed in most parts of the country. It grows in fields, wasteland and roadsides. The whole plant is smooth and hairless, and is 20-30cm tall. The cylindrical stem lies horizontally or diagonally upward and diverges from the base, and the sunny side is often light brown or purple; the leaves are alternate or opposite, the leaves are thick and fleshy, obovate or spoon-shaped, 1 to 3cm long, 5 to 14mm wide, with the upper leaf surface Deep red, with dark red lower leaves; the flowers are yellow and small, with 5 inverted heart-shaped petals, usually 3 to 5 clustered in the leaf axils of the branches; the brown capsule is short conical with a lobed cover. The dried whole plant is preferably small, tender, with many leaves and green.
Function
1. Antibacterial effect
Purslane ethanol extract has significant inhibitory effects on Shigella and Paradysenteriae flexneri. The water decoction can inhibit Shigella, Sonnei, Swinburni and Shigella dysenteriae. Purslane alcohol extract and water decoction can also inhibit Escherichia coli, Proteus, Typhi, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It also has an inhibitory effect on pathogenic fungi such as Trichophyton microsporum.
