What is Sunset Yellowr?
Sunset yellow, also known as Sunset Yellow, Sunset Yellow, Orange Yellow and Edible Yellow No.3, is obtained by diazotization of sulfanilic acid, coupling with 2- naphthol -6- sulfonic acid and refining. Soluble in water, it is yellow orange clear solution, insoluble in oil, almost insoluble in ethanol, red orange in concentrated sulfuric acid, and yellow after dilution. Its aqueous solution does not change color when it meets concentrated hydrochloric acid, but turns brownish red when it meets concentrated sodium hydroxide. It has the characteristics of acid dye and can directly dye animal fibers, with ADI of 0-25. It is mainly used for coloring food and medicine, and can also be used to make aluminum salt lake pigments. Sunset yellow is a food additive approved for use in China.
