Diosgenin is a derivative of isospirosterene, diosgenin in the roots of Dioscorea, Diosgenin dioscorea family, and its ligands are usually glucose, rhamnoose, galactose, arabinose and so on. Diosgenin has estrogen effect, can reduce cholesterol, cough, expectorant, desensitize, restore diseased tissue and stimulate heparin cells and bile secretion. It is an ideal precursor for the synthesis of a variety of steroid hormones and steroid contraceptives.
The production process of diosgenin takes diosgenin plants as raw materials, hydrolyzes with HCl, washes the hydrolysate with water until it is neutral, and dries the hydrolyzed dry product by drying the residue. Heating with gasoline for continuous extraction for 8 hours, the gasoline extract is concentrated, crystallized, filtered and dried to obtain diosgenin, which is characterized by evenly adding 1-5% of its weight activated carbon and lime into the hydrolyzed dry product.
