Rosmarinic acid (RosA for short) is an organic substance with the chemical formula of C18H16O8, a water-soluble natural phenolic acid compound isolated from rosemary in Labiatae.
Rosmarinic acid is widely distributed, mainly found in many plants of Labiatae, Ziziphus, Cucurbitaceae, Tiliaceae, and Umbelliferae, with the highest content in plants of Labiatae and Ziziphus.
Rosemarinic acid is a natural antioxidant with strong antioxidant activity that helps prevent cell damage caused by free radicals, therefore reducing the risk of cancer and atherosclerosis. Rosemarinic acid has strong anti-inflammatory activity, as well as antibacterial, antiviral, and antitumor activity. Rosemarinic acid has demonstrated its important applications in pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic fields.
Rosemarinic acid is a water-soluble substance, low content of rosemary source of light yellow to brown powder, high content of white powder; easy to absorb moisture; with rosemary special herbal odor; melting point: 171 ° C ~ 175 ° C, when ferric chloride - potassium ferricyanide solution shows blue-green.
Stability: rosemarinic acid has good stability. Salt and sucrose have no effect on the stability of rosmarinic acid; pH and temperature have less effect on the stability of rosmarinic acid, and the result shows that rosmarinic acid is more suitable to be preserved and used in acidic and low-temperature conditions; light has a greater effect on rosmarinic acid, so it should be avoided as much as possible when used.
